WINNING SCHOOLCHILDREN TO SKATE WITH KYRAN BRACKEN

School ChristmasIsle of Man News, 24 November 2009 – Jurby Community School pupils will this afternoon (Monday 23 November) become the first youngsters on the ice at Sure Skate when they have a private lesson with Kyran Bracken.

The former England rugby international and past winner of the ITV series ‘Dancing on Ice’ will spend an hour teaching the children, aged 7 to 9, how to skate.

Sure held a competition for all primary school classes to design an advert for the skating event. The 17 pupils in Years 3 and 4 at Jurby Community School beat 24 other entries to win a skating lesson with Kyran Bracken. Their poster will be displayed at the ice rink, which is at Villa Marina for the next six weeks.

Amanda Preston, teacher at Jurby Community School, said: “The children are absolutely thrilled to have won, there were even some tears of joy when they found out!”

The poster had to illustrate that:

  • The rink is REAL ice and up to 200 people can skate at once
  • Sure Skate is at the Villa Marina Gardens
  • The rink is be covered over to ensure skating sessions are not interrupted by poor winter weather
  • The rink is open to the public from 24 November and to 3 January
  • Tickets are available to buy online at www.sureskate.com
  • Families and children are encouraged to come and skate

Julie Heselton, Sure’s Marketing Manager, said: “We felt that the pupils from Class 3 at Jurby Primary School really fulfilled the brief that we gave them. Their poster was very positive and fun, and contained all the information. I hope that they have a fantastic time with Kyran and enjoy seeing their poster on display; they should be very proud.”
