TYNWALD DAY and MANX NATIONAL WEEK 2010

Isle of Man News, 26 April 2010 – Tynwald Day 2010 will be a full day mix of ceremony and traditional activities at St John’s with something to appeal to everyone. After the ancient ceremony including the required Promulgation of Acts, other events planned include the popular dog agility trials. The “Grand Manx Dance” will once again bring together many of the Island’s traditional Manx dance/music groups for one big spectacular dance event.

The fireworks finale will not take place this year as available resources will be focused on supporting the many local groups who assist in making Tynwald Day a unique National celebration for our Island residents and visitors alike. The day will conclude with the traditional Beat the Retreat along with the Ceilidh in the Homecomers tent and the Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drum Band finishing the evening with their usual rousing performance on Tynwald Hill.

Tynwald Music Fest
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event celebrating the wealth of musical talent in the Isle of Man, the Tynwald Day Music Fest will run from late afternoon into the evening, on a number of different stage locations in St John’s concurrently. Laurence Skelly, Tynwald Day Events Coordinator, is inviting all Island groups including rock, blues, soul, R&B, traditional Manx, folk, jazz, brass & silver bands, classical, alternative, choirs, soloists etc. to come forward and express their interest in performing on Tynwald Day, 5th July.

Please contact Laurence at skelly@manx.net or call him on 835061 before the 7th May 2010 to obtain further information.

Manx National Week
Manx National Week, falling between 3rd and 10th July this year, again gives all our Local Authorities the opportunity to hold community events. In past years simple events such as village walks have proved popular with both local and visiting folk. Noel Cringle, President of Tynwald, said “Now is the time to plan to bring your own community alive for National Week. Event organisers can contact our office to enable your events to be publicised free of charge in the Tynwald Day Events leaflet distributed in early June. Tynwald Day itself will have all its parliamentary significance alongside the fun of the fair field together with many organised activities”.

Our historic parliamentary occasion enshrines the laws and the rights for all who live on our Island together with the opportunity to celebrate our individuality and Manxness.
