The Children’s Centre has appointed Lisa Motley as the charity’s Endurance Events Fundraiser. Lisa is well known in the Island’s athletics community as a club runner and for being co-owner of the Up & Running store in Douglas. Lisa has now left the Up & Running store to take up the full-time post with The Children’s Centre which will see her organising new events, and helping her colleagues in the fundraising team to run existing events. Lisa is busy organising the Millennium Way Relay event for teams of four runners which will take place on July 19, but is also looking to develop other new events. She said:
“I am delighted to be working for The Children’s Centre with a highly motivated team. We have lots of plans for events but are keen to hear from anyone who wants to suggest more ideas. I have been involved in athletic events on the Island for a number of years both as a competitor and organiser. I’m hugely excited about the revival of the Millennium Way Relay and look forward to seeing lots of people on the start line in July.”
The Millennium Way Relay is for teams of four who will run the 28 mile multi-terrain footpath from Ramsey to Castletown. Each of the four legs has its own challenges. The first leg, 11 miles from Ramsey to the Brandywell Road, covers a mostly undulating course across open country; the second leg is a 6 mile trail section mostly downhill to the changeover in Crosby; leg three is a predominantly uphill road section covering 4.5 miles; and the final 6.5 mile leg from St Marks to Castletown is mainly flat and across open country before arriving in the Island’s ancient capital.
Entry for the Millennium Way Relay costs £100 per team. The event may appeal to those taking part in The Children’s Centre’s Race The Sun (which is a round the Island relay race taking place on May 17 and sponsored by Mann Made Group) so a discount is being offered to any groups wanting to enter both events. As a way of encouraging entries, any teams that enter both Millennium Way Relay Race (MWRR) and Race The Sun will get a second team entry into the MWRR completely free, a saving of £100.
Commenting on Lisa’s appointment, Juana Warburton, Development Manager at The Children’s Centre, said:
“Lisa’s sporting knowledge and expertise in endurance events on the Island will allow her to make a valuable contribution to our already experienced fundraising team. We wish her every success in her new role.”
