Given the fantastic success of the first Manx Language App- Learn Manx- which was produced by the Manx Heritage Foundation with financial support from Sure IOM, a second App - Manx Songs and Rhymes- has been released by the Foundation and is now live on Google Play and the iStore.
This new app is an ideal and fun introduction to the Manx language and is based on the popular Roie Mygeayrt CD and booklet which was originally produced by the Manx Gaelic nursery organisation, Mooinjer Veggey.
This new app is an exciting and dynamic introduction to the language for parents and children but it can also be used as a serious language learning tool by those interested in learning more of the language.
The interactive song book which is available free consists of:
- 34 songs and rhymes in Manx with karaoke style text highlighting
- Spoken audio for all songs
- Dynamic English translations
- Dictionary of key vocabulary and sayings voiced by young Manx speakers
- An introduction to numbers in Manx
This new app which has been financed by the Manx Heritage Foundation and the Gaelic Broadcasting Committee is, according to Adrian Cain, the Manx Language Officer, for the Foundation ‘another example of just how dynamic and cutting edge the language movement is at present. Hopefully, this app will introduce a whole new group of people- young and old- to the language’
