PUBLIC INVITED TO VIEW PROPOSALS FOR BALLADOOLE FARM
Isle of Man News, 23 February 2010 – Open days will be staged later this month to enable the public to view proposals to develop the IRIS Northern Regional Sewage Treatment Works and a new Civic Amenity Site on the Balladoole Farm Site in Bride Road, Lezayre.
The Balladoole Farm site was purchased by the Department of Transport last year, in conjunction with Treasury.
It is proposed that part of the site will be used for the IRIS Northern Regional Sewage Treatment Works, with a further section allocated for the Northern Civic Amenity Site. The rest of the farm will be leased back to the tenant farmer.
The open days will be held in Ramsey Town Hall from 11.00am till 4.00pm on Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th.
Minister for Transport David Anderson said: ‘Officers from the Department of Transport and the Department of Local Government and the Environment will be on hand to provide an overview of both schemes and to clarify any issues the public may have regarding the overall development. The Northern Regional Sewage Treatment Works will treat sewage flows from the Ramsey and Andreas catchments and therefore cease the discharge of raw sewage to the outfalls at Ramsey and at Rue Point. Environmental Impact Assessments are ongoing to confirm the suitability of the proposed land for development as a civic amenity site and a sewage treatment site.’
Quintin Gill MHK, Department of Local Government and the Environment Member with responsibility for Waste, said: ‘We would like as many people as possible to attend the open days to ensure that the public is well-informed about the proposals and can understand why both facilities are needed.’
Members of the public who would like more information on the IRIS Northern Regional Sewage Treatment Works should contact Neil Caine on 693224. For further information about the Northern Civic Amenity Site, please contact Ian Lewandowskyj on 686531.
