Manx Cancer Help rounded off a hugely successful 30th Anniversary year in 2013 with donations from two prominent local businesses, Gelling Johnson Farrant and Royal Skandia.
Law firm Gelling Johnson Farrant raised £5,175 through Make a Will month while staff at Royal Skandia raised £5,600 for the charity during 2013.
Make a Will month, which was launched in September, encouraged members of the public to get a straightforward Will written in exchange for a minimum donation of £75 to Manx Cancer Help. Of the 193 information packs Gelling Johnson Farrant sent out, 64 people took up the offer.
Liz Parkes, Senior Partner, said: ‘We chose Manx Cancer Help because of all the good work the charity does and because, sadly, cancer touches many of our lives at some stage and none of us know when we might need their support. We will definitely be looking to repeat Make a Will month later this year.’
Meanwhile Royal Skandia held a number of fundraising events including a Christmas raffle and entry into a group wide video competition, which the Isle of Man branch won, adding £2,000 to the overall total!
Anne Ellis, Senior Manager, said: ‘It has been a pleasure to work with Manx Cancer Help and an honour to be able to help such a deserving and worthwhile charity. The whole team has really enjoying getting involved with our various fundraising activities throughout the year, which have proved to be fantastic exercises in teamwork as well as raising money towards the vital services that Manx Cancer Help provides for the local community.’
Ally Martin, Fundraising & Events Co-ordinator at Manx Cancer Help, added: ‘We need to raise £200,000 every year to cover the cost of our ever expanding range of services, so we are hugely grateful to both companies for their support in 2013 and have enjoyed being involved in the interesting and original ways in which they’ve done it.’
