Talented musicians, singers and dancers across the Island are being reminded that applications for the Manx Music Festival, known locally as ‘The Guild’, close tomorrow (Saturday 8th February).
The annual festival will take place between April 25th and May 3rd at the Villa Marina and St Thomas’ Church on Sunday afternoon and evening. With 186 categories to enter, people with all manner of talents can showcase their abilities across the arts.
The event, which is in its 122nd year, celebrates music, drama, speech and dance on the Isle of Man. Highlights include a ‘Weekend of Brass’, ‘Children’s Day’, ‘Songs from the Musicals’ and the finale event, the ‘Cleveland Medal’, which was won last year by Mezzo Soprano Elizabeth Townsend.
This year, the Spoken Word drama class will be open to children in Year One. Programmes should be available from the end of March from retail outlets around the Island. For more information visit www.manxmuscifestival.org
In addition to the prestige of being a winner at the festival, there are also a number of scholarships and awards up for grabs.
Application forms are available from firstname.lastname@example.org and should be returned to 8 Cronk-y-Berry Avenue, Douglas. Previous winners are also reminded to return their cleaned trophies to Peter Norris Music by April 5th.
