Adventure Sports Coach Keirron Tastagh, owner of Adventurous Experiences (a Sea Kayaking and Adventure Sports Centre based near St Johns) passed the British Canoe Union Level 5 Sea Kayak Coach Award at an assessment on the West coast of Scotland 16th – 18th November 2012.

“The BCU Level 5 coaching award is the highest level of coaching award currently available from the BCU. Qualified Level 5 coaches are also able to work in the most advanced conditions for their discipline.”

Following the Level 5 Development training course at Tollymore National Outdoor Centre in Northern Ireland, in December 2008, Keirron has worked with different Level 5 Coaches throughout the UK, observing them and having them observe his coaching.

“Leading up to the assessment, I spent much of this September over in Scotland, working with my mentor and other highly experienced coaches, ensuring my own delivery was consistent and consolidated. Achieving the Level 5 Coach Award furthers the standing of the Island of Man as a world class training location for sea kayaking, and is an accolade to the professional coaching team at Adventurous Experiences, all of whom have been part of the process. In addition to drawing clients from off island, it will also have increased benefits for the programs we deliver through the Adventure Club, the Youth Scholarship Development and Leadership Program, and Corporate Team Building and Leadership days on the Island.” says Keirron Tastagh.

“Qualified BCU Level 5 Coaches are recognised as a cadre of competent, experienced, motivated paddlesport coaches with a depth and wealth of knowledge, who can be relied upon to provide practical coaching, advice and guidance up to the highest level.”

Since the first candidate passed the assessment in 1974, 120 coaches worldwide have passed this prestigious award. 85 of these remain current.

Now enjoying the 9th winter season of year-round unforgettable adventurous experiences on the Isle of Man, Keirron delivers coach education within the new UKCC framework (United Kingdom Coaching Certificate), presently available at levels 1-3 in paddlesport, and runs leadership training and assessment, on island and overseas.

What Next?
“I can now refocus on the Isle of Man Adventure Race ahead of the fourth annual event next June (15th and 16th), where we have launched an elite race on the Saturday, in addition to the Amateur race on the Sunday, very exciting!”
