Islanders encouraged to give Random Acts of Kindness

Isle of Man News, 18 January 2010 – Islanders are being encouraged to make the Isle of Man a brighter place on the most depressing day of the year, Monday 25th January, by taking part in Sure’s “Random Acts of Kindness” (RAK) day and making what can be a bleak time of the year for many people a little bit nicer.

This is the second year that Sure has promoted a day dedicated to making kind gestures to friends or strangers. The mobile phone operator hopes that the tremendous amount of goodwill generated by last year’s RAK day will encourage islanders to take part again this year.

Mike Stanton, Country Manager of Sure Isle of Man, said: “Late January is known to be the time of year when many people feel a bit down but that could so easily be changed if everybody just did one kind act for someone else. It’s the simple acts that can make a great difference, such as helping someone carry their shopping to their car or even by simply saying something nice to everyone they meet during the day. Of course, it’s nice to do these things at any time of the year but we think that an even greater difference can be made in late January.”

Sure will be activating various Random Acts of Kindness on Monday 25th January and would like Islanders to help make the day even more special.

Mr Stanton said: “We’d like people to pledge their intention to create at least one act of kindness by signing up on our RAK Facebook site and we’d really like people who have benefitted from an act of kindness to let others know by posting their experience on the site. People should search for Sure Random Acts of Kindness on Facebook, to find the page.”
