ISLAND LADIES GYMNASTICS SPONSORED BY LLOYDS TSB

Jonathan Potts - Lloyds TSBIsle News, 19 June 2009 – The Isle of Man Women’s Gymnastics Squad – sponsored by Lloyds TSB – have been selected and will travel to Aland, Finland in June 2009 for the NatWest Island Games.

After months of intensive training the chosen team is – Olivia Curran, Manx Gymnastics Club (MG), Grace Harrison, (MG), Rebecca Johnson (MG), Christine Stoddart (MG), Lyndsey Beynon (MG), Rhyanne Hancock, Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club (EV) and Sophie Kneen (EV).

To gain a place, the team competed in a number of trials, held in March and April. The gymnasts, from as young as 13, needed to complete complex and difficult elements on bars, beam, floor and vault.

Jonathan Potts, Senior Manager, Personal Banking from Lloyds TSB Offshore commented: “We congratulate the whole team for qualifying for the Island team.  We are delighted to sponsor their trip to Aland which will be an exciting and challenging event for them all.”

Jayne Evett is squad coach and will travel with the competitors to provide coaching and support.  Gennady Tsyganov, as men’s squad coach and Judith Hedges as overall gymnastics team manager, will complete the official team.

Jayne commented: “We are delighted to have chosen the final gymnasts and our congratulations and best wishes go to the whole squad travelling in June.

“They have all worked tremendously hard and the NatWest Island Games in Aland looks set to be a memorable occasion. Many thanks to Lloyds TSB for their ongoing sponsorship of the Island’s Gymnastics Squad – and their particular support in sending this team to the 2009 Games.”

The gymnasts will compete at Bollhalla which is the competition and training facility for Mariehamn’s Gymnastics Association.  Bollhalla is situated 4 km from the centre of Mariehamn in Aland.

Jonathan Potts concluded: “On behalf of Lloyds TSB we wish the team every success in Aland.  The organisers have showcased the medals on offer – and I’m sure this will make them train even harder! They are unique – and feature a design of water drops.  We would be delighted if they bring a few back to the Isle of Man.”
