IOMA SPONSOR BACCHANALIANS FOR 7TH SEASON

IOMA SPONSOR BACCHAS HOCKEY TEAMIsle of Man News, 5 November 2009 – FUNDS at Cronkbourne Bacchanalian Hockey Club have been boosted by IOMA group for the 7th season running.

Nigel Wood, Managing Director of IOMA group presented a sponsorship cheque to Chairman of the club, John Rimmer at IOMA House on 2 November.

The funds will be used to support both senior and junior teams – making ‘Bacchas’ the only club on the Island who have only one sponsor.

Nigel Wood commented: “ IOMA has made a commitment to Bacchas and notwithstanding tough economic conditions it is imperative that this is consistently applied.

“Our sponsorship will help kit costs for the junior team, goal keeper kits and provide small subsidies to junior members who have been selected to train in the UK.  It will also help the senior teams travel to participate in the UK.”

Chairman of Bacchanalian hockey club, John Rimmer said: “The Club depends on the support of parents, players and, of course, its sponsor in maintaining its tradition of achievement. One of our greatest successes at the moment is one of our youngest players, Louise Corkill, who frequently travels to the UK with her mother Margaret, a former employee of IOMA group.”

“Louise has successfully trialled for Manchester Pumas, captained a squad against Leeds and Durham Pumas and just returned from playing for the Pennine Puma Under18 side in the England Futures Cup held on the weekend of the 31st October.”

“This is the furthest a local player has achieved following the introduction of England Hockey’s Single system player pathway and with a good performance at this last event she has a chance of selection for the England’s U18s Ladies squad.”

“Other success stories are Karl Moore, our club coach who is the first on the Island to successfully pass his level 3 hockey coaching assessments and our men’s team which won the double last season – league and cup.  Not surprisingly, 10 out of the 18 players in the current Island Men’s team are Bacchanalians.

John added: “The money received from IOMA helps us play the sport we all love – and we continue to be very grateful to them.  We also welcome new members to the club and anyone interested can contact the club secretary on bacchashc@hotmail.com.”

Nigel Wood concluded: “We are delighted that Louise’s success and experiences have been gained through her exposure to international competition  – and that IOMA has had a part to play in it through our support of Bacchas.”
