The Department can confirm there was a fire at Grianagh Court at 9:40pm on Sunday 22 June 2014, resulting in evacuation of the one half of the building. Evacuation procedures were successfully implemented and as a result no injuries were sustained by patients or staff.

The cause of the fire is subject to ongoing enquiries and as such it would not be wise to speculate at this time.

Patients have now been returned to Grianagh Court and the facility remains operational.

The Department would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the calm and professional manner in which the incident was managed by both nursing staff and emergency services.
