An innovative fitness class for parents and children held at the Carrefour Health Club in Douglas raised £320 for The Children’s Centre. Twenty-five mums, dads and children took part in the hour long class on Sunday March 2 which involved a mixture of aerobics and circuit training.
The session was free of charge, but participants were invited to make a donation with all proceeds going to help The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects across the Island. The event was organised by CSR Fitness which specialises in creating exercise classes ranging from bespoke personal training sessions for individuals, to events for businesses looking to encourage staff to take more exercise, and classes for busy parents wanting to exercise with their children aged seven and upwards. The class was led by CSR Fitness Instructor Miro Capka who commented:
“It’s not easy for parents with young children to find time to exercise. So we organised the CSR Family charity event to demonstrate that it is possible for parents to get fit while also spending quality time with their children. This type of class is a brand new idea and one which encourages children to grow up seeing exercise as an everyday part of their life and creates habits which can bring health benefits that last a lifetime. Some of the families that took part have told me that it was the best family time they’d spent together in ages. We decided to donate funds to The Children’s Centre to support the valuable work which the charity provides to help families and children.”
John Knight, Chief Executive of The Children’s Centre, also took part in the class. He commented:
“Creating fitness classes for parents and children is a great idea and will no doubt prove popular for mums and dads with busy lives who may have difficulty finding time to exercise. The class was a lot of fun and we’re extremely grateful to CSR Fitness, and to everyone who took part, for helping to support our charitable projects.”
CSR Fitness is planning to run more classes for parents and children in the coming months with weekly CSR Family classes starting on Sunday March 16 and running every Sunday thereafter with all the events at Carrefour Health Club at 2pm, and lasting around an hour. Weather permitting, outdoor events will be organised from April onwards to accommodate greater numbers of participants.
