Love photography? Love the Great Outdoors? Then you’ll love what’s happening on Sunday July 27th.
As part of Love Parks Week, a week-long celebration of green spaces from July 25th to August 3rd, Douglas Borough Council’s parks section has teamed up with the Island’s leading photographer Andrew Barton who will be holding two outdoors photography workshops.
The morning session will be at 10am in the Green Flag award-winning Marine Gardens on Douglas promenade; the other, at 2pm, will be at the viewing platform at Douglas Head, recently installed by the parks section along with a floral display of a giant red poppy created out of 4000 geraniums and more than 1000 poppy seeds to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
Mr Barton said: ‘I am delighted to be supporting the Council’s contribution to Love Parks Week. These two sites provide truly inspirational settings for photographers, be they seasoned or novice, thanks to the parks section’s year-round outstanding efforts to create attractive public green spaces. The two photography sessions, which are free of charge, will be a combination of basic tuition and how to maximise the photographic potential these two landmark sites offer.’
The Council’s Regeneration and Community Advisory Committee chairman Councillor Stephen Pitts said: ‘Our parks section works tirelessly on our award-winning parks and gardens to make Douglas not only a more attractive town but also to encourage people to get out into the “Great Outdoors” and take advantage of the leisure and general wellbeing opportunities presented by our green spaces that will be taking centre stage during Love Parks Week.’
‘The Marine Gardens and the newly revived Douglas Head area are prime examples of what vision, investment and hard work can bring about. They also make for great photo opportunities as those choosing to register for Andrew Barton’s workshops will discover.’
Interested parties must register the free sessions in advance as availability is limited. To register, contact Andrew Barton, 480040, 817817, firstname.lastname@example.org
