CASTLETOWN ‘exile’ Dave Podmore is celebrating after finishing a gruelling 100 mile hike in 46 hours – two hours ahead of schedule.
Dave who grew up in the town, chose the Valleys 100 event to raise funds for Greyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE); the charity for which he and wife Sharon work as event volunteers.
“The furthest I’d walked prior to this event is 50 miles” said Dave, back at home in Hereford this week.
“This was the most gruelling 46 hours of my life – but my wife and own two rescued greyhounds were waiting to meet me at the finish line.
“Thinking about the dogs that this money will help save spurred me on through some very dark moments” Dave smiled.
His efforts have so far raised over £1200, but there is still time to show your support at www.justgiving.com/David-Podmore2.
Alternatively go to www.grwe.com to find out more about the charity, which is currently seeking home checkers, to enable rescued greyhounds to be rehomed on the island.
“We need people with experience of dogs, ideally sighthounds” explained Dave.
“I’m sure anyone with a dog behavioural qualification would find the work interesting, but full training will be given by GRWE” Dave concluded.
