At the annual general meeting of Ramsey Town Commissioners held on Thursday May 1st Captain Nigel Malpass was unanimously re-elected chairman.

Proposer was Mr Stephen Bevan who said that as local authorities were entering ‘a period of change’ Ramsey Town Commissioners would benefit from Captain Malpass’s wide-ranging experience.

Seconder was Mr Graham Jones.

Accepting the nomination Captain Malpass said he was ‘surprised and delighted’ and that he believed it was only the third time a Ramsey Town Commissioners’ chairman had been elected to the post for five consecutive years since 1865.

He continued by thanking his fellow commissioners for their vote of confidence but cautioned: ‘If we think times have been difficult of late, they are set to become far more challenging in the future, as local authorities come under increasing pressure to deliver more for less.

‘It is therefore incumbent on us to work harder and in this the Commission is fortunate to have such a broad range of skills and experience among its members and staff, all of whom are, I am confident, up for the challenge.’

Captain Malpass will be supported in what he confirmed will be his final year as chairman by deputy chairman Stephen Bevan, whose nomination was proposed by Mr Geoff Quayle and seconded by Mr Laurie Hooper.
