The coolest event in Douglas this Christmas will be ice carving in Regent Street.
Sponsored by Sure the ice sculpture will be carved by Darren Jackson and Stephanie Quayle, the pair who have been collaborating for a number of years since meeting at an ice carving festival in Latvia. They have competed in Europe and Canada, winning awards along the way and in January 2014 will be returning to compete once again at Lake Louise in Edmonton.
The event is taking place on Saturday December 21st from around 10am and the sculpture is expected to be completed by late afternoon.
Town centre manager Michelle O’Malley said: ‘When Stephanie and Darren created an ice sculpture last year in Regent Street it proved a tremendous attraction, so it’s thanks to Sure that we’re able to welcome them back to Douglas this year when they’ve promised another fantastical display.’
Sarah Jarvis, marketing manager at Sure, commented: ‘We are delighted to be sponsoring the ice carving event for the second successive year. As a business with a significant presence in the heart of town it’s great to see how Douglas Development Partnership is leading the way in supporting retail by bringing a new vibrancy and sense of fun to the main shopping centre year round – and especially at Christmas. Judging from their amazing work last year, Stephanie and Darren’s ice sculpture promises to be a dazzling “winter wonderland” attraction not to missed. Come along on the day – and if you get some great pictures, we’d love to see them on the Sure IOM Facebook page!’
Ms O’Malley added: ‘The carving will take most of the day so there’ll be plenty of opportunities to take a break from all that frantic shopping and check out progress. What could be better than to mix the mayhem of shopping with the magic of Christmas right in the heart of town.’
