The Isle of Man now has its very own community and business app thanks to local businessman, John Wannenburgh. Residents can now access local news, business and community information plus money saving vouchers directly through their mobile phones.
The Big Local App, which is free to download, provides local businesses and community services with a cost-effective way of communicating with their customers on the move through the latest mobile phone technology.
“Around 83% of Smart Phone owners have downloaded at least six apps but this is the first time that an app has been created to serve the needs of the local community,” said John. The use of apps is growing five times faster than the internet with over 200 app downloads made every second in the UK.
“Most Apps are national and very expensive but this is a much more cost-effective service exclusively geared towards the island’s businesses and residents so it provides our island community with information and offers relevant to them,” said John. “It also offers maps, directions and website links.”
Anyone who owns an iPhone or Android phone can download The Big Local App from the App Store or Google Play for free and have lots of useful information at their fingertips.
Local businesses such as Specsavers Opticians (IOM), The Thirsty Pigeon, Kurries & Steaks Restaurant, Pedego Isle of Man and Bridson & Horrox have already signed up.
The new service will also be a huge support to local businesses who sign up. Fully integrated Apps can start at around £5,000 but the Big Local App Isle of Man has kept costs down by providing businesses with their own mini app which they can edit and update themselves through the internet, in real time.
“The Isle of Man is one of the first regions in the UK to have the Big Local App and I am really excited to be bringing this to the local community,” said John.
