Manx Cancer Help will be holding the second ‘Marathong’ supported by Barclays Wealth and Investment Management on Friday 19 September.

The event, which aims to raise awareness of male cancer, was launched last year and will see the brave participants from the business community run or walk through Douglas in their most outrageous underwear in their lunch hour.

It is intended as a fun run, beginning at Barclays Victoria Street branch at 1.15pm and ending at the Douglas Old Friends Club on Finch Road. Everyone is encouraged to take part and registration will take place from 12.30 at Douglas Old Friends Club.

Manx Cancer Help is a self-funded organization providing specialist care for those affected by cancer in the island. It will benefit from the ‘Marathong’ event thanks to additional support from Energy FM, Douglas Development Partnership and G4S.

Simon Scott, Managing Director of Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Isle of Man, said: “Many of our staff took part in last year’s event and we’re happy to help again this year by holding the starting line at Victoria Street.

“Before taking part in the run we will be welcoming Professor Robin Davidson, clinical lead at Manx Cancer Help, into Barclays’ offices to talk to staff about male cancer and how the money raised from the event will support Manx Cancer Help.”

Ally Martin, Manx Cancer Help Fundraising Coordinator, said: “The Marathong is a fun event with a serious message to help raise awareness of male cancer and the important work that Manx Cancer Help provides on the Isle of Man to anyone who has been affected by cancer.

The Marathong is in to its second year due to its popularity last year and we would like to thank Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, Douglas Development, Energy FM and G4S for their continue support of the event.”

Those who wish to take part in the fun run will be able to register at the Douglas Old Friends Club at 12.30 on the day; competitors will then have to walk to the start line at the Barclays Victoria Street branch.
