Barclays employees walk for Isle of Man charities

A total of 14 Barclays Wealth and Investment Management employees took part in this year’s 2014 Manx Telecom Parish Walk raising nearly four thousand pounds for four local charities.

They walked a combined distance of 572.5 miles on Saturday 21 June 2014, with nine of them managing to walk the 32.5 miles to Peel by the end of the day. Five went on to complete the 85 mile walk.

The total raised was approximately £3,800, benefiting, the IoM Anti-Cancer Association, Hospice Isle of Man, The Children’s Centre, the MGP Helicopter Fund, Rebecca House and an appeal to buy a powered wheelchair for a local disabled boy.

As well as taking part in the race itself, several Barclays employees were on hand at the refreshment stations handing out bottles of water and bananas to support the walkers.

Ian Pilley, Head of Credit Operations for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, said: “We are extremely pleased that our staff were able to contribute to this local fundraising event. Many of us achieved our personal bests and it’s fantastic that five colleagues completed the full 85 mile walk.

“Jon Wagstaffe, Stacey Hutchinson and Christa McKay crossed the finish line together during their first ever attempt at the Parish Walk with Richard Highfield finishing in 88th place and Dino Mazzone in112th. This is a great achievement and they should be extremely proud of their efforts.

“Not only did we have colleagues taking part in the walk, there were also several Barclays employees who had volunteered to man water stations in two locations on the route, contributing massively to a fantastic atmosphere.”
