Appleby Isle of Man “Employment Law Update”

Caren Hyde, Counsel at Appleby will give the next presentation in the ISCA’s CPD series. The event, on Tuesday 20 November and sponsored by Appleby Isle of Man, is titled “Employment Law Update”.

Previewing the event, Caren states: “With unemployment rates on the rise, it is more important than ever that employers take the time to look at the options available to them. This seminar aims to provide guidance and advice to help managers make informed decisions to protect themselves, their business and their employees.”

Caren is an experienced advocate and deals with a broad range of civil and commercial disputes. She also specialises in employment law and is the local team leader for the Employment team. Caren’s experience spans both non-contentious and contentious matters, including redundancy, employment issues related to mergers & acquisitions, restructuring, unfair dismissal, sex discrimination and contracts of employment. Her clients range from leading global and local corporate entities to high net worth individuals. She also has experience in dealing with work permit and immigration issues and also regarding the employment aspects of shipping law, including crew contracts.

Caren was actively involved in liaising with the Isle of Man Government as part of the consultation process for the Employment Act 2006 and related secondary legislation that changed the face of the Isle of Man employment-law landscape.

Caren is a member of the Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce Employment and Training Committee which specifically looks at forthcoming employment legislation and government initiatives concerning commerce. She joined the firm in 2001 and qualified as an Isle of Man advocate in 2003.
