Classically trained local portrait artist Svetlana Cameron is featured in the winter 2013 edition of Celtic Family Magazine, a US-based publication devoted exclusively to news and culture from Celtic communities around the world.

The four-page article shows Mrs Cameron’s painting Laa Tinvaal, the first in her planned series of Tynwald Day-themed works, one of former Chief Minister Tony Brown OBE as Speaker of the House of Keys and a commissioned drawing Girl with the Pearl Earring, winner of the US North Light Books’ ‘Stroke of Genius 6’ international drawing competition in 2013.

In her interview Mrs Cameron, who works out of her studio in Braddan and is currently preparing for her solo exhibition at the Sayle Gallery in November and developing her portraits of aspects of Tynwald Day, says: ‘As an artist I find the Isle of Man extremely inspiring: scenic views, peaceful landscape with endless rolling hills and deep blue sea, relaxed way of life…all that helps get me into that elusive create frame of mind and state of deep concentration.’

She goes on to refer to the ‘large artistic community’ in the Island and adds: ‘We have painters working in a variety of media and styles, sculptors, wood carvers, jewellery designers, textile artists, film makers, photographers…in fact, a very impressive range of skills for such a small place.’
